Message from NAACP President, Minnesota/Dakotas Area State Conference

 Members and Friends,

The NAACP Minnesota/Dakotas Area State Conference will host three events for members and the public in the next two weeks.   We need everyone to assist by sharing the attached flyer with your distribution networks.  The events will include a Forum to provide an informational overview of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry.  The services of DLI are quite pertinent to social justice and immigrant advocate organizations. The Page Amendment Townhall as well as the COVID – 19 Forum are timely and important information for our all of our communities.   We sincerely appreciate your help in getting the word out regarding these events.

 Regards,

W.C. Jordan, Jr.

NAACP Minnesota/Dakotas Area State Conference Upcoming Events

Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry Forum (DLI) (Virtual); Thursday, March 25th, 2021, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  The Department of Labor and Industry provides key and critical services and programs to members of the BIPOC and immigrant communities.  They are charged to ensure that the work and living environments of Minnesotans are equitable, healthy, and safe.  Members of the department will share an overview presentation and be available to respond to questions.  The Forum will be livestreamed on the NAACP Rochester Branch MN Facebook page.

An NAACP Townhall - The Page Amendment:  Pros and Cons of the Proposal (Virtual); Tuesday, March 30th, 2021, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The NAACP is hosting this event to provide members and the public with information regarding this important proposal to amend the Minnesota constitution.  Individuals supporting the amendment, including Former Supreme Court Justice Alan Page and President of the Minnesota Federal Reserve, Neel Kashkari as well as those in opposition to the amendment, to include Minnesota State Representative Cedrick Frazier, will take part in the Townhall.  Supporters want Minnesota voters to approve amending the state Constitution to say that a quality education for all children is a civil right. The Constitution's current language, which dates to the beginning of statehood, requires an "adequate" and "uniform" system of education. A constitutional amendment requires passage by both the house and senate, and then approval by a majority of voters in a future election. The Forum will be livestreamed on the NAACP Rochester Branch MN Facebook page.

COVID 19:  A Health Forum on Virus Disparities and Why Receipt of the Vaccine is Critical to the Black Community (Virtual); Thursday, April 8, 2021, 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  Dr. Zeke J. McKinney will be among a group of panelists who will provide information regarding the current state of the COVID 19 virus and distribution of vaccine among the Black community.  The Forum will be livestreamed on the NAACP Rochester Branch MN Facebook page.

About Beam
  • For the commercial sector, we tend to register startup activities (new companies and new commercial projects) that bring diversification and high-impact opportunities to the area.
  • For the non-profit sector, we wish to shine light on all the organizations and services that otherwise labor under relative obscurity.
  • Our hope is that dmcbeam.org will encourage cross-sector collaborations and creative solutions.

While there are a number of registries in the community, dmcbeam.org's  distinct value is to pilot a database with a data structure and categorizations that answer the questions such as: What organizations or projects/programs in our community that have purported relevance with some of the over-arching focuses put forward by initiatives such as DMC, J2G and Health Improvements?

This database could be used as one of the ways to explore the capacities of the community. If you are someone on an exploratory journey to learn about the greater Rochester community. dmcbeam.org could be an interesting first step.
