Video Recording

Regrettably due to inexplicable operator mishap, while we really had a great presentation (followed by robust Q/A) from SBDC, Mark Thein and RPS Superintendent Kent Pekel yesterday, the Teams video recording did not take.

Takeaways (Holding All of Us Accountable)

To be followed up in future RPS/CMRC interlocking

  • From ACHLA regarding Hispanic/Latino HS student graduation outcome: While the tech referendum does not directly address the HS graduation gap for graduation rate for Hispanic/Latino students, it is an essential element of the RPS Strategy Plan to close outcome disparities. See info on Beam.
  • From CERT: Accountability of equitable tech usage knowledge for black families and students. This is related to RPS September Study Session regarding Education Equity.
  • From Pamoja Women: The need to include parent technology usage education. (The superintendent mentioned an interesting idea of an app that lets students teach parents about tech usage.)
  • From Journie: Funding and resources distribution to targeted underserved populations (black and brown students)
  • From CMRC Steering Committee: There is potential linkages to MN DEED's Digital Equity federal grant funding to help close the BIPOC tech divide and to augment what RPS alone can do. It holds all of us accountable. It takes a village.
  • In the City For Good will be hosting another Technology Referendum forum on October 19, 2023

To be followed up with SBDC

  • CMRC and other BIPOC stakeholders can connect with SBDC for consultations on business planning and support. Support is open to non-profits. For example, Journie can serve as conduit to its stakeholders to bring them to SBDC for consultations. Click HERE to sign up for no-cost confidential consulting services .
  • CMRC can be the relationship network hub for SBDC to outreach to underrepresented groups.
  • Take advantage of SBDC workshops such as the one being convened by CMRC SC Members, Kim Sin, Ayo Oyebola in October How to Start a Business

To be followed up with DMC EDA and City of Rochester

Misc Follow Up with Area Leading Organizations for Sponsorships
