Centering Indigenous Relationships: Moving Beyond Land Acknowledgements

Explore how the City of Rochester’s approach to working with Indigenous communities has evolved. Through four park projects and initiatives, we will examine how our understanding of Indigenous history, presence, perspectives, and lived experiences has deepened, and how that learning has shaped changes in engagement, relationships, and decision-making. The session will consider how organizations can move beyond acknowledgment toward meaningful and sustained action.

Youth Voice as Community Expertise: Lessons from Rochester's First Youth Co-Design Lab
|
Rochester's young people already hold expertise about the challenges facing our
community. This summer, a first of its kind Youth Co-Design Lab paid high school
students from Rochester Public Schools and near-peer facilitators from the University
of Minnesota Rochester to put that expertise to work on two real problems: cannabis
and vaping prevention, with Olmsted County Public Health, and pathways into health
tech and med-tech careers, with Destination Medical Center. Over nine weeks, they
interviewed more than 90 peers, family members, and community members inside
their own networks, made sense of what they heard, and built and tested ideas on
real feedback.

in which McKnight Foundation strives to be inclusive for staff, guests, and people

Chinese New Year Celebration Gala

Chinese New Year Celebration Gala is a primary annual event of gathering in Rochester Chinese community. The purpose of the event is to celebrate the biggest Chinese holiday, carry forward the Chinese culture and promote the merge with the multiple cultures in Rochester. Usually there are about 600 people attending this event, including Chinese and other ethnics.
Stage shows will feature many exciting performances such as singing, dancing, poems, sketch, dramas, instrument playing, and more, mostly with Chinese cultural and artistic style. During the stage show time, we will also have lottery to have some surprising prizes.
