About Diwali

Deepawali greetings to all!

Deepawali or Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is a prominent Indian festival celebrated by Indian communities all over the world. The festival symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. This year Indians all over the world celebrate Deepawali on Nov 14th.

Deepawali marks the new Lunar year and falls on the New moon day, It  is also celebrated as the harvest festival. There are legends and religious stories related to Deepawali. There will be religious ceremonies at the Temple and at our homes too. Food, family, friends and fireworks - that's the theme for the day!! This year will be different, especially with all of us in the grips of the pandemic. This year the religious ceremonies will be tomorrow at the Hindu temple and can be attended via zoom. The temple will also give away small packets of fireworks for those folks who want to do small scale fireworks at home.

One Nov 21st, like every year the Indian community comes together to celebrate Diwali as a cultural event to showcase the talents of young and adults. This year it is being hosted virtually by Indian cultural Association of Minnesota, a non profit organization. Ticket for the virtual Diwali is $25, which includes a $20 food coupon for the Indian restaurant the Hyderabadi Grill in Rochester.  I have attached the flier for the event. Please check out the website for tickets and more info.  https://icamn.org/

Loka Samasthah Sukhino Bhavanthu! This is a Sanskrit sentence (one of the ancient languages), which means that may all the beings in the world be happy and well.

Let us all acknowledge and celebrate the light of knowledge and wisdom within ourselves to guide us to keep our communities safe and healthy! Happy Diwali!

With love and prayers on this auspiscious ocassion,

Nisha
