Background Information
The Office of Academic Services will provide the Board with an update on the implementation of the MDE science standards and the Amplify Science curriculum in our elementary schools. Following a review and selection process, Amplify Science was adopted because of its strong alignment with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and its emphasis on inquiry-based learning, hands-on investigation, and integration of literacy and science practices. Beginning this year, two modules of Amplify Science will be implemented in each grade level with additional supplementary units to address standards that are not found within the selected modules.
Full implementation of the MDE science standards and Amplify Science began across RPS elementary schools at the start of the current school year. This update will include the implementation plan, components of the Amplify Science curriculum, highlights from an RPS elementary classroom, and next steps for strengthening science instruction for all elementary students.
