Meeting Notes on the Joint Meeting of CNG and Community Health Improvement Teams

Opening Remarks: Steve Borchardt, Pete Giesen

Steve Borchardt on behalf of Rochester Area Foundation (co-host of the meeting) gave a quick intro on the Community Network Group: its history and its evolving format.

" Our goal (common agenda) is to increase awareness and understanding of public, private, non-profit organizations' plans and needs. We aim to share and identify key community needs and plans so that individually and collectively we will be more effective in carrying out our mission of serving the community."

Pete Giesen (Olmsted County Public Health Services) recounted the May 8 Olmsted County Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) big group meeting during which the topic of collaboration enablement was put forward which led to to this meeting to demo a possible collaboration tooling for community health improvement team.

Al LunAl Lun used the following slide deck to guide the demo and conversations.

Takeaway Notes

  • Feedback from the audience seems positive and there is general interest to stay engaged:
    • General agreement that collaboration is essential to maximize collective impact.
    • Virtual teaming is challenging. Technology enablement can help.
  • For the Olmsted County Community Health Improvement initiative:
    • General sense that the Al's chna.dmcbeam.org prototype can offer good value to the team
    • Further exploration opportunity when the CHI project manager role gets filled
    • Came to light that there is also a CHAC Website being constructed under the guidance of Olmsted County Health Care Access Collaborative (CHAC) . There is an opportunity to compare the CHAC website to Al's home-brewed chn.dmcbeam.org site.
  • The need for a community dashboard was talked about quite extensively. Several dashboard ideas are being explored within the community including the following:
  • dmcBEAM was (and is being) built-out to trigger the imagination of community partners:
    • To drive conversations and innovation regarding virtual teaming.
    • It should only be viewed as a tooling contender among others if the community at large decides to pursue a cloud-based collaboration platform.
    • Agreement that embracing technology is a essential strategy for Rochester to maintain its leadership in STEM and general social/economic development. We could use a focal point (the concept of a Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the community) to provide guidance and technology framing for our area to ensure we are properly positioned to stay vibrant in the "connected" world.
  • As Al demo'ed the dynamic query of discovering what org's do what in the context of DMC, CHNA, or planScape domains, someone brought up the notion of keyword sensitive search such as non-structured data querying -- now that is thinking big.

Net Net

  • Great conversations
  • Let's keep it going
